August 29 Meeting Notes
Our last meeting for the summer took place on Friday, August 29th at the YWCA’s new home on Spy Run Avenue. Owing to multiple vacation conflicts, we were a cozier crowd for our fourth meeting, but the energy was high, thanks to Hilary Andersen, our host. She and YWCA co-worker, Mollie Cripe pulled together conversation starters on Generational Differences and Change. And we are very grateful that Hilary pulled to together both meeting space and a viewing area for screening of Shift Happens- The extra work paid off!
Using the YWCA’s Generations handout from their Diversity Dialogue on the subject, we all got an overview of how the four major generations think and work. And, thanks to Mollie’s eye on future generations, we watched a Youtube video on the developing global population and what to expect of our next several coming generations. These two pieces were more than enough to spark lively discussion on the role leaders play in team cohesiveness and mission driven results.
See the video, put together by Karl Fisch for the School Board at Arapahoe High School, Centennial, Colorado. As of this posting it has been viewed more than 2 million times. A Big Thank You to Mollie for bringing it to our attention!!
Particularly, we were all on the edge of our seats debating the role technology is playing in services and how that effects the digital divide. The question rattling around the table was how does an organization serve, or leaders lead across the generational divide under the strain of the ever-growing digital divide? We did not have had all the answers, but our group was certainly charged to get the conversation going.
Several potential topics surfaced and we’ll leave it to our next host to direct our conversation. Follow the blog to learn more.

Who is the we of NeXtGen?

Hi Russ,
We are any number of different people attending our monthly meetings. In sum, we total about 30 Northeast Indiana Nonprofit Professionals from all walks of the charitable life. Our focus is generation differences and this frames how we discuss all aspects of our lives in nonprofits.
I’m so glad you asked!

(I use “we” to describe our group activities; you should know who I am and if you are curious about us, you should join the conversation! We are very informal and have no real membership as such- rather, just interested people who make the time to attend in the pursuit of lifelong learning. In the various meeting notes under NeXtGen Pages you will find key information about the different hosts we’ve had thus far. The About page tells you pretty much everything I repeated for you here.)
