June 20 Meeting Notes

On Friday, June 20th, NeXtGen was hosted at the first remote site, the Fort Wayne Dance Collective. Major thanks goes to Andy Welfle, NeXtGener and Managing Director of the FWDC for the enlightened suggestion to meet at each other’s spaces monthly, for agreeing to be our first host, coaxing his creative director into leading us through a creative movement exercise and for setting up our dining area in the FWDC’s gorgeous studio.

We took the time during this meeting to review the survey results from our initial questionnaire. In summary, the survey says: Until our needs change again, looks like we will continue to meet once a month at each others’ locations and focus our meeting to a topic of mutual interest within the nonprofit sector.  We will begin each session with our ever-developing elevator speeches and go on to a conversation about our understanding of the topic at-hand and any pre-distributed resources on that topic.  And we’ll learn from each other’s successes and mistakes in that topic area. We’ll take a tour of the organizations we meet at and, hopefully, return to work or hit the weekend invigorated and inspired to keep up the good work.

After we chatted about the group’s goals for the Digest program, Andy provided us a personal tour of the building – which holds ArtLink and Cinema Center as well. We learned about the FWDC’s extensive community involvement, as well as its history, in brief.

Before heading back to our collective offices to finish our good work for the week, Liz Monnier, Creative Director and Co-Founder of FWDC led us through the “Brain Dance.”  As she talked us through the repeated and alternating movements, Liz informed the group that the routine is based upon childhood development and noted the cognitive benefits of each movement.

Another successful meeting (2 for 2!) and not only did we network, inspire and learn from each other, but we had fun and, thanks to the “Brain Dance,” perhaps it is safe to say, we all left the meeting re-energized to get back to our good works~

Thanks FWDC!
